Regional and local newsletters abounded, and often changed (or crossed) boundaries. Later the midwestern areas were part of the Central region. The Chicago area was the center of an often-shifting region that often met for railfanning. Great Lakes centered on this area and east, the Mid Continent stretched west. The Lake Shore Railfan Protection District emerged around Chicago and the Precision Wide Vision Division in Minnesota.
